We parked the car right in front of the track, got out, and actually walked on the place where Eric Heiden won his 5 gold medals in the 1980 Games!
When we got to the top, we parked, got out, and walked onto the big observation deck where you can look down the hill and see many of the curves. They are all named and can be covered in sunny weather to keep the ice an even temperature. There are different starting points for each event (bobsled, luge, skeleton) and for the women's run.
We were given instructions about where to get off the track and how to get back to the center. Then we were off!! I lost count of the number of photos I took, but it was a bunch for sure. Here are just a few of them...
Even knowing that five days in Vermont lay ahead of us, we were still sad to leave Lake Placid behind. I predict that we will re-visit the area one of these days. Thanks for traveling along with us and picking up your Olympic Postcard as I lived my Olympic dream. If you drop by tomorrow evening, I'll share some Vermont stories with you!
