Today, Becky and I headed up to Bumgarner Camping Center in Lenoir to finish up some business we started there last week. While I was chatting with Shannon, the owner, Bec strolled around the showroom looking at trailers. She came back to me all excited and said, "They have a Barefoot!" For a few years, we have admired the little fiberglass Barefoot trailer produced over in the UK. A year or so ago, NüCamp here in the States acquired the franchise for this trailer and began production. All of us T@B owners have been really excited to read more about this little beauty or to get to see one in person. Today we got to see one in person!! All I can say is that it's stinkin' cute! The seaglass color is gorgeous and it is light and airy inside with five big windows. It is full of attractive features and you cannot help but smile when you see it. Would I like one! Absolutely! Will I be trading Splash in? NEVER! Oh, did I tell you it comes in pink too, lol? Is it expensive? Oh yeh!!

Do you remember your 16th birthday? Do you remember the song "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" by Neil Sedaka in 1961? Do you remember a magazine called "16"? My answer is YES to all three questions! But let's focus on the latter one, the magazine. 16 Magazine was founded in late 1956 and soon set the standard for all teen publications. The first issue had Elvis on its cover. It was never the place to look for serious interviews or top-notch writing, but if you were like me, then you wanted to read all about Elvis' favorite food or maybe see the Beatles' latest trading card or hear what surfing adventure the Beach Boys were off on. In the mid-60s, full color pin-ups started appearing and as for me, but my bedroom wall was full of them, lol. Did you realize that the magazine was self-supporting and didn't have any advertising from any source! And you might be surprised to find out that NC native Gloria Stavers was the editor-in-chief for almost 20 years.
So why am I talking about 16 Magazine? I have purchased a few issues from Etsy for the purpose of using them in collages, ATCs, and zines. Now before you jump on me for destroying such prized memorabilia, my plan is to make photocopies to use in my artwork. So settle down and one of these days I'll have some really neat creations to show you! Thanks for stopping by to pick up a Monday Postcard. Have a great week everyone and I'll ya soon!
You might remember from Postcards past, that I love an excuse to go junkin' and to find a neat-o local place to eat. On Wednesday, Becky and I had some business to take care of in Lenoir, so that opened up the possibility of two of our favorite activities. A quick search online located a fun spot for lunch & two new-to-us antique places. Right across from the Courthouse downtown was the Shake-n-Dog with a wide variety of dawgs to choose from, 60s music memorabilia on all the walls, and great tunes being played. Perfecto! After our meal that cost of all of six bucks, we strolled around the corner to the first antique store. It's not the first time we have seen a place called Dead People's Stuff! The first was in Alabama on our way to a camping rally in St. Augustine. They had a terrific selection of stuff here, but like everything these days, the prices had been stretched a bit. From there, we headed back home, stopping at The Rusty Rooster on the way. Once upon a time we used to see the chippy yellow truck at another store in Denver. Inside we were greeted by three fellows having a heated discussion about items, prices, and places to look for them. It was fun eavesdropping on them as we looked around, lol. Today Becky and I took a necessary trip to the Holler, then had a late, late lunch in Wilkesboro on the trip back home. Many years ago when we were in Williamsburg with Rich and Sue, we ate at a Mexican place we don't have here at home . . . Qdoba. We never knew how to pronounce it or what it meant exactly, but we knew after eating there the first time that it had good food. We still don't have one within 30 minutes of Newton, so that was our lunch destination today. I will report it is still tasty! And it's oh so convenient that Sweet Frog Yogurt is right next door. Well I'm two for two . . . two Postcards in two days. Thanks for stopping by y'all. Happy Saturday and I'll see ya soon.
Most days in my Memories on Facebook, I get a long-ago Postcard to read. Today was such a day with one from a camping rally with friends to SC. It was the Lakeside Rally and on this particular day, April 26, 2016, I chronicled a visit to Landrum, SC for some shopping, sightseeing, and good eats.
I took some time to see when my last Postcard was sent and that was on our return trip from the OBX on June 27, 2021. We had spent the week with Cousin Rob and Trisha at Hatteras Sand Campground on Hatteras Island. So much has happened since then and I cannot imagine how many Postcards could have been sent if I hadn't allowed it to fade away. Friends tell me from time to time that they miss reading them and I honestly miss composing them. I still take photos of everything, so I always have lots of snaps available. All I would need to do is add some text and I'm back in business. So let's see where this takes us. Let's see if I can get back in the groove of blogging. Let's see who might still be out there that enjoys picking up my mail from the road. Happy trails! |
