Today we'll visit "Runaround Sue". She's a 1970 Scotty Sportsman, just a mere 13 feet long, and she belongs to Susan Hyde. Susan is Sister 2263 from Newnan, GA and I think you're going to fall in love her little cutie pie!
It's the Pope's last day, the last day of February, and the last day to use my coupon for a free Dunkin' Donuts coffee, but not the last day to check out the vintage trailers from Saddle Up . . . LOL!
Today we'll visit "Runaround Sue". She's a 1970 Scotty Sportsman, just a mere 13 feet long, and she belongs to Susan Hyde. Susan is Sister 2263 from Newnan, GA and I think you're going to fall in love her little cutie pie! Whether you are drying out, digging out, or just chillin' out this morning, I'm glad you popped back by to pick up the Wednesday edition of Postcards. This week, and maybe next week too, I'm featuring the vintage trailers from last weekend's Saddle Up in Pigeon Forge, TN.
Today I want to introduce you to "Pearlie Rose", a 1970 Shasta Loflyte. Like the others I've featured this week, she's also 13 feet long and her proud owner is Yafah Bonnie Joyce, Sister 3029 from nearby Kernersville, NC. The "Pearlie Rose" is another one of the vintage trailers that sports a cute western theme and Yafah plays the part well too! I'm looking outside and seeing a steady rain and ice on the trees. It's a truly miserable day here in the foothills, but it's the perfect day to introduce you to my favorite trailer from Saddle Up . . . the "Mudflap Motel". This little motel on wheels is owned by Kat Downing, Sister 1926 from Lascassas. TN. She's a 1966 Shasta Compact that's only 13 feet long and full of glamping goodies inside and out! When I get back home from a SOTF event, I realize that I should have taken many, many more photos inside and out than I did and that's the case once again. So I'll go back into my archives and pull out some extras of the Mudflap Motel that I took down at the Country Living Fair in Georgia back in the fall. Love, love, love her!
Well another Monday has rolled around and it's time to think about Postcards to send to you this week. I think I've hit upon a pretty cool idea. I'd like to feature one of the vintage trailers from Saddle Up each day and show you their grand lines, the creative decor, and the charm of these old gals.
First up for the week is "Riding Shotgun." This is an appropriate one to start with because of her terrific Western theme. Riding Shotgun belongs to Heidi Byerly, Sister 1229 from Fayetteville, GA. She is a 1959 Easy Traveler, 12 feet long, and all duded up as an Old Stagecoach. Our campground was ground zero for Saddle Up activities on this Saturday. By 9:00, the cars were starting to stream in. The chuck wagon cowboys had already been up for hours preparing for the cooking competition, bringing their Dutch ovens up to the perfect temperature, and getting ready to feed the hundreds of people who had purchased lunch tickets.
I took several hundred photos and will have a hard time picking out ones to share with you. Rather than try to explain everything, I'll just give you the name of the chuck wagon crew and let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy!! It's been non-stop activity here at Saddle Up since I woke up this morning. The Sisters started buzzing around the coffee pot and Dutch ovens pretty early and the cowboys spent the day getting their chuck wagons set up for tomorrow's competition. My day isn't over by any means, but I'm sending out a Postcard a bit early today because we're all going to a concert this evening. I have way too many photos and things to tell you about my day, so I'll just focus on the cowgirls and cowboys. Tammy showed everyone how to make biscuits in a Dutch oven while Judy was cooking several pounds of bacon. I wish you could have smelled that bacon . . . um, um, um! There was even a pair of boots for sale in the middle of all the breakfast activity . . . LOL! Cowboys were getting their chuck wagons, tents, tables, Dutch ovens, enamel pots, and grills situated in anticipation of the cooking in the morning. I chatted with the boys from Missouri who looked like they were finished setting up and ready to roll. I stood out like a sore thumb in my sweatshirt and tennis shoes! They offered me one of their hats, but when they said they were kinda sweaty, I passed on their offer . :))) The Sisters were also working hard getting their trailers ready for the tour tomorrow with all their cowgirl gear and decor. Thanks for stopping by today so I could share a few of my photos with you of the cowgirls and cowboys hard at work. Happy trails from Saddle Up!
With some classic rock on the radio, I made my way over the mountain to Pigeon Forge today to gather at Clabough's Campground with Sisters on the Fly. SplashT@B is still in her winter hibernation and The Coffee Cup is without a tag (thanks a lot NC DMV!!), so I'm in a suite with some other gals for the weekend. Actually we are pretty much party-central! Clabough's Campground is on Wears Valley Road just off the Parkway and it's HUGE...155 sites! We have one little section all to ourselves. When I did my walking this afternoon, I noticed that there's no one here but us though. Sue and I made a run to Kroger before suppertime and then just relaxed until our 7:00 get-together out back on the enclosed patio. It was good to see old friends as we gathered around tables full of snacks and appetizers. One thing that will NOT happen when you are with the Sisters is have a shortage of food! Thanks for stopping by this evening. I've got a really fun day planned for tomorrow, so I hope to see you back here tomorrow night! Nite, nite!!
I was chatting with my friend Marian this morning after our stretch session at CORE Fitness about how difficult it is to lose weight when you are a carbo-holic. Like me, she loves her carbs! When she said that she really likes soup too, I told her about the soup I'm making for supper this evening. It's called Meatball and Spaghetti Soup and when I told her the ingredients, she asked for the recipe. I thought you just might like the recipe too, so here it is . . . It's low on carbs, but high on flavor and I think you might like it. For anyone who counts Weight Watchers points, a 1 1/2 cup serving is only 5 points. If you click on the recipe card, it will give you a larger view and make it a bit easier to read.
I'll chat with you tomorrow evening from Saddle Up! Have a great evening everyone. On Thursday I'm headed for the hills . . . Pigeon Forge, TN to be exact. There's a big gathering of Sisters on the Fly for an annual celebration there called "Saddle Up". There's also a big Sister gathering down in Florida this weekend called "Swimming With The Manatees". If I had my druthers, I'd be down in warm, sunny Florida with Paula and the gang for a little R & R. But because Pigeon Forge is closer, TN Sharon is in charge, and I need to tie up some loose ends for the upcoming Blue Ridge Rally in nearby Townsend, I'm headed north instead of south. The Sisters have been invited again this year by the Saddle Up organization to camp and gather at Clabough's Campground where the big chuck wagon cook-off will be held on Saturday. There will also be a Buckeroo Roundup, entertainment, and cowboy-themed activities. The Sisters will be opening up their vintage trailers for an open house from 9 to 1 and having a Cowgirl Prom later that evening! I'm not pulling SplashT@B nor The Coffee Cup to this event. Instead, I'll be staying in one the apartments in the campground and I'll still be close to all the events. Here's the press release that will tell you more about the event: "We’ve rounded up some fine talent for the 13th annual Saddle Up in Pigeon Forge! Come join us for all of the outstanding cowboy entertainment and activities. Our award-winning Stories & Strings returns for a second season, joining three other concerts, a chuck wagon cookoff, Cowboy Dance and Cowboy Church. “Capturing the Old West,” a special photography exhibit and video presentation by award-winning photographer Ken Jenkins, is a new addition for 2013. Please drop back by on Thursday evening to pick up the first of several Saddle Up Postcards. Yeehaw . . . the Sisters ride again!!
Becky and I had to head back home to Newton this morning, so we all gathered for breakfast at Virlie's in Pittsboro before hitting the road back home.
. . . two tumblers, two mugs, and two juice glasses, all with the distinctive burlap inside and the brown Coffee Cup colors I've been searching for!!
Becky found a beautiful aqua chenille bedspread for the outstanding price of $22 . . . not for her, but for Sue. We love to pick for our girlfriends! I sent Sue an email and a photo, so I predict that she and Rich will be making a trip to Asheboro within the week! It was a fun trip home from Pittsboro after a great visit with our bestest T@Bbin' buds. Thanks for tagging along by picking up your Postcards and Happy Valentine's Day to each and every one of you!! |
