Yesterday I told you about how we kick off our mornings at the Blue Ridge Rally with coffee. Even more popular than that is our Afternoon Cheer. That's just the Blue Ridge way of saying happy hour. We gather each day at 4:00 for drinks and nibbles and once again, these fellowship times are hosted by volunteers. I tip my glass to Geo, Liz, Bill, and Elaine who kicked our week off as our Monday hosts. Richard, Belva, Bill, & Lynn were in charge of Tuesday. On Wednesday, Diane, Randy, Bob, and Susan hosted the party in the Pavilion. T@DAers John, Judy, Chuck, and Jennifer treated us to nibbles and drinks on Thursday. Gunther, Nancy, Kathryn, Mary, and Dan had everything under control on Friday. And Bill and D'Nise joined forces with Warren and Kaia to close out our week on Saturday. If you want to get maximum participation at a Blue Ridge activity, just offer up food and drink! While not everyone participated in this afternoon ritual, there was a awesome crowd each day with drinks in hand, stories to be told, and smiles all around! I appreciate you coming by today for another Postcard and I promise to have another one for you tomorrow!
There is hardly a better way to start out the day at the Blue Ridge Rally than gathering with friends for a cup of coffee or hot tea and some breakfast nibbles. Over the months leading up to the BRR, folks volunteered to host our morning get-togethers and make sure the coffee was made, hot water was available, fixin's were laid out on the counter, and food was put out on tables. I'd like to thank Dave and Sheila for taking care of Monday; Bill, Elaine, Carolyn, and Tom for being in charge on Tuesday; Bob, Carol, and Colleen for handling Thursday; and John, Heidi, Paul, and Heidi for hosting on Friday. Y'all did a terrific job of kicking our day off in a great way. The local coffee shop, The Artistic Bean, donated gourmet coffee after reading our Blessings in a Backpack project in the local paper on Tuesday morning and that was extra special. Here are some snapshots of our morning Coffee Hounds . . . Thanks for dropping by for today's Postcard. See ya tomorrow!
Greetings everyone! The 10th annual Blue Ridge Rally is in the history books. We had an awesome week-long celebration and now that I'm back home and have caught my camping breath, it's time for me to tell you all about it. Big Meadow Family Campground in Townsend, TN was party headquarters as 63 trailers carrying 106 Blue Ridgers from 22 different states gathered, starting on Sunday, May 14th. Barbara Johnson and her staff welcomed us with open arms and took care of us all week making sure everything was perfect for our visit. Big Meadow is my all-time favorite BRR campground and this was our third visit in ten years. Everyone was given a welcome bag chocked full of all kinds of goodies, items from local businesses, and information about Townsend and the surrounding area. We didn't have one single drop of rain all week long, but the trade-off for that was extremely high temperatures every single afternoon. It even got up into the low 90s a couple days. I told everyone that I had been praying for good weather since early January, but I think I went a little overboard! Becky and I got our campsite set up fairly quickly and we settled in to rally life in a prime location - site #47. We were lucky to have morning shade and late afternoon shade. Unfortunately, some sites had lost their big shade trees due to an infestation of the ash borer. In fact, as we pulled out on Monday morning, a week later, four more trees were being taken out.
Greetings everyone from Big Meadow Family Campground in Townsend, TN, home to the week-long celebration of the 10th Annual Blue Ridge Rally. Becky and Jake the CRV, Splish, Splash, Murphy the Camper Dog and I had a great trip to the Smokies yesterday. We made a few more pitstops than normal due to a certain pup, but we still made good time and got here before 1:00. It's impossible for me to describe my excitement over this rally and being back with camping friends once again in a place that I love so much. We took our time setting up because we had to stop often to hug old friends and meet new ones. My ID Button crew formed an assembly line to stuff little welcome bags full of the happies that Splash told you about last week. 63 trailers, 110 Blue Ridgers from 22 states...so we had our work cut out for us. While Barbara and Kristina registered Blue Ridgers and handed out their own welcome bags, we reveled in the gorgeous weather, and visited to our heart's content. I always assign a time to all BRR activities, but most folks will tell you that it is followed by an "-ish." On the first night of a rally, most Blue Ridgers do not want to cook, so we always go out to eat. Barbara recommended Brianna's Italian Restaurant. It's a new place in town and they have outdoor seating, so that's where we headed at 6:00-ish. 36 of us gathered at the outside tables, met Michael our waiter, and hardly minded how long it took to get drink orders and food orders. We were so busy jabbering away that we were content to sit and be together. Murphy snoozed on her blanket to pass the time. Everyone raved about their food and our chicken pesto pizza was de-lish! Before we knew it, it was time for our traditional campfire. I made a quick visit to see if anyone needed anything and I hit the sack!
Thanks for picking up your Postcard and I will return tomorrow to tell you all about our Monday! |
