I still have a couple Postcards to be delivered concerning our quick trip to Georgia last weekend. My Friday Card is all about Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
In November of 1863, the Union's victory in the Chattanooga Campaign opened the way to the South's major rail junction of Atlanta. Sherman would soon begin his March to the Sea and the course of the battle would change forever. The road to Atlanta would run right past Kennesaw Mountain. Becky and I are trying revisit as many Civil War battlefields as we can during this four-year 150th anniversary and Kennesaw was a convenient stop on our way home last Saturday. |
The battle here on June 22, 1864 damaged the house and destroyed several outbuildings. Union General Joseph Hooker used the Kolb house for his headquarters after the fight. The Kolb family cemetery is adjacent to the house.
After leaving our driving tour, we headed to nearby Marietta where we wanted to pay a visit to the Confederate Cemetery. I'll share that stop with you on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone!!
