Shopping For Shabby Chic

Guess what Becky and I did on Saturday?  We went junkin'.  Oh, you already had that figured out?  I guess we are kinda predictable aren't we.....LOL!

We cranked up the AC in the car and headed over to the Lake Norman area and a little town called Cornelius.  Our faithful fold-out antiques guide showed Oak Mill Antigues and that sounded promising.  Any time an old abandoned mill is re-purposed for antiques and collectibles, it's worth a visit!

I've been chatting with Bec about the possibility of redecorating my bedroom at the beach.  Jessie and I have shared a bedroom with twin beds for 19 years with the same old tired yellow bamboo-styled furniture, bedspreads, carpet, curtains, and puzzles framed on the walls.  It's time for a change!  Plus, I don't think Becky really cares as long as I pay for it.....HA!

I love Jane Coslick's beach cottages on Tybee Island and that's the shabby chic look that I'm shooting for.  These four photos from my camping trip there last year are examples of the beachy colors I want to use.

So instead of looking for Scrabble tiles and vintage camping items, I set my sights on furniture and accessories with a coastal vibe.  I found the perfect 3-drawer cottage chest, an aqua-colored vanity table to go between the twin beds, and Mr. Pelican made out of cement that I immediately fell in love with!

I took some measurements and asked if the prices were firm or negotiable.  Woohoo.....10% off anything over thirty bucks!

Now it's matter of getting back to Cornelius to buy them and then finding a time to go to the beach!

I have an idea for some cool headboards made out of old chippy, weathered shutters, some wire baskets to hold beach towels, a mirror framed with pieces of driftwood.....stuff that I can create and make.

So it was a successful junkin' trip and plans are starting to fall into place for a beachy re-do!

I hope everyone had a good weekend, dodged the storms, and stayed cool somehow.  Thanks for stopping back to collect your first July Postcard.  Later gator...

Oh I so wish we were closer! I just had a booth at the Wellfleet Harbor Fest flea market with everything nautical.....let me know if you can't find something! I love the Coslik treatment and you can purchase her material, probably online. Seaside Sisters also carries it. Good luck and keep us posted! S3
