I had a vague idea of what to look for, but I'm sure I missed many, many stones because what I was hoping to find was that perfect cross shape. Instead, we found the crosses embedded in larger rocks, singles with hexagonal ends, and ones that looked like imperfect ones that been tossed back in the rock pile.
I made the comment that it was like looking for a shark's tooth on the beach. Plus, the heat and humidity had creeped up to an unbearable level, so we took our small handful of stones and headed back to the campground.
After the rain, we sat around in damp chairs and chatted. Rob hinted that he really would like to go back and look for more fairy stones, so off the two of us went! This time we took something to sit on, gloves, a plastic bag for finds, and a renewed attitude. And it paid off! We came back with a whole bag full of fairy stones.....not perfect ones, but quite acceptable ones.
On our way back through the campground, we spotted some deer, so we snapped a bunch of photos of them.
