Last Friday over in the Maker Beehive, Jennifer presented a paper mache class on making teacups. Prior to making a paper mache snail (Norman) at the retreat last November, I couldn't remember ever making something out of paper mache in my whole life! And here I go again, lol.
We knew going in that this wouldn't be a quick and easy project. It would be messy, there would be layers and layers of wet paper to be applied, and then patience would be needed during the hours and days of drying time. With a minimum of supplies (Vasoline, plastic litre drink bottles, thin paper, and some sort of glue medium) I was up for giving it a go.
Despite excellent instructions from Jennifer, I had to watch the replay, take notes, and then go slowly. I simply cannot wear gloves because of my wonky fingers, so it was an ordeal trying to keep the Mod Podge I was using from going everywhere. I snapped a lot of photos, so let me walk you through Part I in a slideshow.

I learned one big lesson this time around if I ever choose to do this again. Either make sure the Vasoline is spread all the way to the top inside OR don't take the paper pieces so close to that top edge! It stuck big time!! But a long flexible palate knife came to the rescue. With all my Maker Bee projects, I seem to go through a discouraging "ugly phase" and have to keep telling myself it will turn out OK.
I probably won't start on Part II until tomorrow because the three cups were still kinda damp. Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my teacups and I'll see ya soon.
