The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday and today is TUESDAY!! We parked the car and with cameras in hand, we did our own walkabout of the complex.
We saw the CCC log cabin and statue of a CCC worker out front. We peeped in the windows of the brand spanking new visitor center and walked around the outdoor exhibition buildings.
I don't know that we'll ever get back up this way to see it, so it was a shame that it wasn't open. Leaving a day early on Sunday instead of Monday came back to bite us in the butt!
At breakfast in McDonalds, we sat beside a group of seniors and struck up a conversation with them. They told us we should go to the Ice Mine just outside of town that recently reopened after 25 years. Down in the mine, icicles form in the spring and summer, but not in the winter. They are 1-3 feet in thickness and 15-25 feet in length. It sounded really cool (no pun intended), but look closely once again at the sign. Closed . . . rats!! |
What great fun we are having and I'll hate to see mile marker 00 on Route 6 tomorrow. Thanks again for picking up your Postcard each evening. Sleep well and I'll see ya back here Wednesday night!
