I never saw so many elephants in one place in my entire life, not to mention over 800 kinds of candy under the same roof. We strolled around outside to see the pumpkins up close, the elephant fountains, and even an elephant cemetery. Inside we saw thousands of elephants in every shape and form in the museum. All we could do was shake our heads and laugh. You just gotta love an elephant museum and candy shop in the middle of nowhere! |
Today was our travel day. The kind of day that you just gotta love! Getting an early start, watching the sun come up, and knowing that adventure awaits! We had some fog to deal with after getting on I-81, but it didn't take long for it to burn off as we were clipping along with 1000+ transfer trucks. We have a favorite place to stop to stretch just north of Roanoke called Brugh's Mill. You just gotta love a store that has a huge cookie jar made to look like a vintage trailer! We were getting close to leaving VA and decided to stop for gas and lunch in Woodstock. You just gotta love finding gas for less than two bucks. We parked in the shade, compliments of an out-of-order air pump, and pulled out our picnic fare. You just gotta love a good parking lot picnic! Our next two hours took us through farmlands and three states. Before we knew it, we were making a right-hand turn onto Highway 30 - the Lincoln Highway, on our way to Gettysburg. You just gotta love the old motor courts, eating joints, and stone houses you see along this famous road! At the National Battlefield Museum and Visitor Center, we browsed the bookstore, updated our Passport stamps, and grabbed a driving map. Supper was fish & chips at Friendly's where we got ANOTHER senior discount. You just gotta love places that reward you for being old! After supper we enjoyed a drive around the battlefield with the windows down, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of these sacred grounds as we neared sunset. Like I said, you just gotta love a day like this! Thanks for letting me share it with you. I'll talk to you tomorrow night from Cooperstown, NY.
