I want to take one more day to share a little side trip that sister Becky and I took after our Country Living Fair foray a couple weekends ago. If you have followed PFTR for any length of time, then you know that Bec and I love all things Civil War related and that includes cemeteries. When we found out that we were so close to one while visiting Kennesaw Battlefield, we knew we had to check it out.
We learned that soldiers from all the battles of the Atlanta Campaign were buried there. That meant that one of the unmarked graves could contain the body of our relative, Noah Sigmon, who was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga. To our knowledge, there are no records of where Noah was buried.
Each Southern state has an area dedicated to its soldiers and we took our time walking around many of them, pausing in the North Carolina section that contained the remains of 73 heroes.
My 2013 travel season is winding down, but that doesn't mean that Postcards will be on sabbatical. With one more camping trip in SplashT@B on the calendar and our annual gathering in Colonial Williamsburg for Grand Illumination coming up, I hope you'll continue to drop in to see where the cancellation on your Postcard originates from!
