Reason #1 . . . I found a new 10.5-inch Lodge griddle at my local antique mall this week. It was priced about ten bucks lower than any I had seen on Amazon or on the Lodge website. All it needed was a bit of cleaning and I'm looking forward to breaking it in week after next up at Raccoon Holler with the Cousins.
Greetings everyone on this July Sunday. I hope your weekend is going splendidly. Today is all about cast iron. Why do I say this? Well, here are half a dozen reasons why . . . Reason #1 . . Reason #2 . . . I have been needing a tote for my 8-inch CDO and when I found one on Amazon Prime, again less than the going rate, I ordered it. Because Amazon Prime offers free two-day shipping and Sunday deliveries, it arrived at the front door this morning. Sweet! Reason #3 . . . Several weeks ago, my cooking cousin Chef Rob, posted a photo of a sweet CDO mod that he crafted. He took some leftover wood and created a TRAY to set a hot CDO on for serving purposes. I snitched his idea, but went to Lowes instead and purchased a pre-cut, round, rounded-over-edges piece of pine to use for the same purpose. I will probably stain it and might even do a bit of art on it before all is said and done! Reason #4 . . . Today Wendy and I took a mini-road trip to the new Ingles in Lincolnton. As I walked through the magazine aisle, I spotted a publication that I immediately knew was coming home with me! I'm looking forward to an afternoon of recipe browsing. Reason #5 . . . Wendy found a recipe called "Sylvia's Ribs" that she has been wanting to try for some time now. Neither one of us have ever cooked ribs, so this will be a new venture. Before I try it in the camp Dutch oven, she's going to cook it in our Le Creuset DO inside. Rest assured I will be reporting with photos! Reason #6 . . . I have moved my Dutch cooking station from down on the patio to up on the deck. It is simply easier to walk in and out of the door instead of up and down the stairs and through the yard. I am going to re-purpose a portion of the deck as CDO Central and will be re-designing and constructing a table to be used for prep and service. Here is the original table that I will make only half as wide, twice as long, and about a foot taller. I have my materials list and will be off to Lowes this afternoon! Stay tuned for that adventure. Was I right or was I right about it being a Cast Iron Sunday?! Have a good one yourselves and I will see you back here for another Postcard soon.
