Four of us watched everyone pull out after breakfast on Sunday morning at the DOG and when the last taillight left our view, we hopped in our two cars and headed out to see some of Frederick County, compliments of tour guides Bill and Elaine. Our morning destinations were the three nearby covered bridges, the first being Roddy Creek Covered Bridge. Covered bridge number two was the Loy's Station bridge. Covered bridge numéro très was the Utica Mills Bridge. The road was actually closed for work on the bridge's stone walls, but we were still able to stop, get out, and stroll across it. A young fellow on a ATV whizzed up and down his driveway to make sure that we didn't make a u-turn on their property. No worries, we kept our tires on the road. As we wound our way through the countryside chatting back and forth on the walkie-talkies, we saw sprawling farms and long vistas across the Catoctin foothills. Becky and I both agreed that it looked very much like the Amish countrysides we have seen. It was a lovely drive, but lunch at Mama Lucia's in Frederick would be answering the call of four growling stomachs next!

One of the maps we will have along with us has all the covered bridges on it, so I'm sure that we will see any that fall close to the roads we are on. Comments are closed.
