On a hot August day, Civil War veterans would come to Newton (the county seat) to pick up their yearly pension and that began our tradition of honoring soldiers. Some folks refer to this week as Reunion Week, but those of us who are locals call it Old Soldier's Reunion Week.
Over the course of the years, the celebration has expanded and now runs for the entire week with activities and events taking place each day. Sunday is the Cruise In and Cruising Around The Square. Cars that pre-date 1972 cruise in and park for the afternoon before pulling out in late afternoon to cruise around the Courthouse like we did as teenagers on a weekend evening.
Ever since I started sending you Postcards, I have documented this day with photos. Two years ago I featured chrome and last year I showcased the colors of red, white, and blue.
