It's a good thing that we did our packing up on Sunday in preparation for our Travel Day on Monday because we had heavy rains during the night. Big Meadow didn't rival the flood of 2015, but there was still ample standing water at everyone's site. Our departure time was 9 a.m. so we said our goodbyes to Blue Ridgers leaving later in the day and we lined up in front of the office for a photo opportunity. Lilou and Kaia stood in the road and waved moments before we pulled out. |
Splish, Splash, Murphy, and I led the way over to River Road to start our journey. Rich and Sue brought up the rear as they usually do. Sandwiched in between us were seven T@Bs and we presented quite the sight traveling down the road.
We made a comfort stop at Sugarlands Visitor Center before continuing through the Smokies to Cherokee. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day and the long-distance vistas I was hoping everyone would see and marvel at, were non-existent. We made one stop for a group photo before driving on to Mingus Mill.
Lunch was scheduled to be a parking lot picnic at the Pisgah Inn, but it didn't actually happen because just as soon as we pulled out chairs and food, it started to rain. On top of that, a worker told us that we couldn't park there and we needed to move. The bright spot was that just as soon as we pulled to a stop, a big group of Corvette riders bombarded us with questions and wanting tours.
Our fire starters got a roaring fire going beside the river and it was the perfect way to end a long, dreary day on the road. I, for one, was looking forward to a good night's sleep!
