Back around January, someone suggested that we do an alumni cookbook with recipes submitted by anyone who graduated from Newton-Conover High School.....lots of folks agreed that would be fun. Since I was the chairman of the cookbook committee at church several years back, I offered my services as consultant. Well....you can predict how that ended!
To make a long story short, four of us banded together to pull this grand idea together. We met all through the winter, picking out a title, designing a cover, choosing recipe fonts, narrowing down colors, setting a sales price, and all the other fine details. As the recipes started flowing in, our excitement over this project began to build.
Kathy Newton (Class of '69) was our boss and she did an incredible job! Bob Marlowe (Class of '64), Carolyn Combs Taylor (Class of '67) and I (Class of '68) rounded out our little committee.
In the end, we chose the name "DEVILICIOUS!" because we are the Newton-Conover Red Devils and our school colors are black and red. We decided to turn all our profits over to the high school library for the purchase of books.
GO RED DEVILS! | Those of you who live around these parts, please consider helping us support NCHS with a purchase of our cook book. If you don't live nearby, but are interested in a copy, I'll be happy to mail one to you. They are $10 each and I'll pay for postage! Check out one of the recipes I submitted...a couple of slices of white bread and you have the perfect summer sandwich! Click on it to make it easier to read. |
