Becky picked me up about a quarter to ten this morning. With a full tank of gas, cash, and a camera, we headed towards the High Country on a quest to find some new campgrounds. Seven hours and 200 miles later, we both agreed it was a successful day in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Our first stop of the day was only one mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Linville Gorge at a small place called Linville Falls Trailer Lodge Campground. We had absolutely no idea what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised at what we found.
Bec's GPS did a fine job of taking us directly to each place with no issues whatsoever and that was just one of many reasons our day was so successful. Next stop . . . Secluded Valley RV Campground in nearby Newland only six miles off the Parkway.
This time we were greeted by a couple out doing yard work. I asked about a brochure and map and the gentleman told me they didn't need a map since the whole campground was in a circle around the lake. So we drove around and once again I picked out a couple suitable sites. This was indeed a secluded and beautiful little valley.
We found 2 side by side spaces right on the river, not too far from the bath house, and right beside a covered outdoor pavilion. With so many local attractions in the area to visit, this would be a great home base for several days.
It didn't take us long to pick out two PERFECT sites and being concerned about this place being really popular in mid-July, we decided to stop and make reservations. Well guess what? The two sites that we wanted are also the most popular ones in the whole park. I think we'll need to make reservations way in advance in order to get numbers 18 and 19!
