We met folks that we are friends with and keep in touch with to this day, nineteen years later! Even back then, I was journaling and taking photos of our adventures. So I'd like to take you back to that Fourth of July day in 1994 with our friends in Colonial Williamsburg and share with you our evening.
"Our game plan was to meet at the stocks at 7:30 for the fireworks. Becky and I got there first, then Mary Ann and Sally came and said that Ray and Carolyn had a spot all picked out. They had a great spot behind the Courthouse and we had a clear view between Grissell Hay and Peyton Randolph. Gradually the crowd gathered and the square filled up. It had been a hard day in the dirt and it felt good to just relax with everybody."
"We spread our chairs and towels out on Ray's blue tarp and got comfortable. Doug and Gail arrived and David and Marty came after their supper at King's Arms. Alan and his wife had gone to Washington for the fireworks there. David said that some years the crowd was so thick you couldn't see any grass. The weather was cool, zero chance of rain, and there was even a breeze!"
"The fireworks started at 9:15 and were spectacular. They came up right over North England Street between the trees. All we had to do was lean back and enjoy. They only lasted 15 minutes though. Since we couldn't light our sparklers, Doug, Gail, Becky and I went back to Gene's and lit them in the backyard and celebrated there."
I hope all of you have a wonderful day today full of family and friends and grand memories from July days past.
