Forty-three Blue Ridgers bundled up and enjoyed a hayride along the Loop Road in Cades Cove. It was pretty chilly, but we were laughing so much it kept our insides warm. Although we didn't see much wildlife, nor did we have much of a commentary from our guide, we had a grand time!
Cloudy skies, sunny skies, starry-nighttime skies . . . we had it all today. Throw in a hayride, a local festival, an afternoon in camp, a potluck supper, an evening campfire and it made for a pretty awesome first day of May. Once back at Big Meadow, we re-grouped and then headed over to the Heritage Festival. Becky and I grabbed a bite of lunch, sampled some local honey, listened to some local bluegrass music, and topped off our foray with a fried apple pie. When we got back to Big Meadow, judging for the sign holder contest was in full swing. A sunny afternoon provided a great opportunity for snagging more photos. Our 5:30 potluck supper brought out all the great camping chefs. The tables were loaded with so many wonderful dishes to try. Before we started to eat, I got the honor of announcing the winner of the site sign holder contest. Drumroll . . . . . Dave and Sheila with their incredible Dr. Suess inspired sign! They took home a Campfire in a Can donated by Big Meadow! It's past my bedtime, so I'll sign my Postcard and zip it off to you now. Thanks for stopping by to see how we kicked off the first day of May, Blue Ridge style!!
