Add to that the fact that she had all of us in overload within the first ten minutes of the tour. Hardly taking a breath, we were her mobile, captive classroom for almost an hour. I'm sad to say that I came away learning very little about our state's early capitol building and the events that took place there in the late 1700's.
Fortunately, our stroll around the gardens outside more than made up for disappointment inside. The first garden we visited was the kitchen garden which was an important source of food for the early inhabitants of Tryon Palace. Herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees were all grown here.
