Their website says, "Bok Tower Gardens has offered some of Florida's most memorable experiences to more than 23 million visitors since 1929. Through its historic landscape gardens, unique Singing Tower carillon and magnificent 1930's Mediterranean-style mansion, the Gardens offer unparalleled opportunities for artistic, cultural, personal and spiritual enrichment."
We parked the car, gathered picnic items, and had a relaxing lunch under the live oaks in plain view of many flowers in bloom. I was using the vintage tin that Bec had given me for my birthday and it was proving quite useful everywhere we stopped! | Our drive to the Gardens took us through massive orange groves and for the first time, we got an up close view of them. Later, we would see them from above and notice the box-shaped pruning. |
Our stroll took us through areas with over 150 varieties of azaleas and camellias...both favorites. The paths wound 'round the gardens and under live oaks draped in Spanish moss...more favorites. Water features and flowering plants were more treats for the eyes.
In the garden nearby was an area to sit and watch the carillon being played via closed-circuit TV. It was pretty cool to watch the man play some notes with fingers and others with his whole fist! We continued our stroll and then Becky visited the plant shop before we left. I think one reason we enjoyed the gardens so much is that they were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and we had recently visited another one of his creations at the Biltmore House. |
I would say that he accomplished his mission and we are blessed because of it!
