Yesterday I was going to wrap up our recent Midland Trail adventure in West Virginia with some of the signage we saw along the way. I didn't realize I had so many photos to share with you though. Today I'll show you the rest of them and that will conclude our Highway 60 trek.
Good morning from the cloudy and cool North Carolina foothills. What a difference a week makes. Last Saturday morning this time we were under assault . . . upwards of nine inches of rain in a 6-hour time frame. It was not fun, nor pretty. So I will take clouds any time rather than what we experienced a week ago!! Yesterday I was going to wrap up our recent Midland Trail adventure in West Virginia with some of the signage we saw along the way. I didn't realize I had so many photos to share with you though. Today I'll show you the rest of them and that will conclude our Highway 60 trek. I hope you have a happy, happy weekend and I'll chat with you in a couple of days. Thanks for dropping by to pick up your bonus Saturday Postcard. Adios!
July is a wrap, so is this week. Our Midland Trail trip is in the history books. So to close out my two week Postcard series from West Virginia, here are some of the signs we saw along the way. I'll dedicate these to Cousin Rob, who loves signs too, and wish them a safe trip to their big F.R.O.G. Rally in Indiana! Have fun Cuz and say hello to Tink, Ella, and Tom for me!! Well, looks like I have too many to share today, so I'll throw the rest of them in another Postcard to you tomorrow. Have a good weekend everyone!!
One of my favorite shows on the DIY channel is "Salvage Dawgs". Friends, Mike Whiteside and Robert Kulp, made a salvage offer on a local 1892 landmark filled with architectural details. They began saving the house piece by piece and storing the items in a warehouse that Mike had rented. They turned over an old vinyl sign, wrote "SALVAGE" on it, and within minutes, a customer pulled into the parking lot. As they say, the rest was history. Three years later they outgrew the building and purchased a 40,000 square foot warehouse next to the Memorial Bridge in Roanoke, VA and have been there for the last decade. After finishing our Midland Trail escapade, we made a beeline for Roanoke to visit their place called Black Dog Salvage! As soon as we drove up, I spotted items purchased on their forays that were featured on recent episodes. Becky doesn't get the DIY channel, so she didn't quite know what to expect and really couldn't understand my excitement when I saw Robert in the parking lot. If you need an old door or doorknob, sink or faucet, neon signs, plank flooring, lighting fixtures, stained glass windows, columns, or one-of-a-kind repurposed items, then this is the place for you! Part of the building is dedicated to those salvaged items and the other part is a marketplace where craftsmen, antique dealers, and artists sell their wares. This area was as much fun to stroll around in as the other. Two items that were recently featured on the show were an old piano turned into a bar and the back end of a boat turned into a red, white, and blue sofa. On our way out, I stopped by the front counter to purchase a t-shirt and ask about a little metal item I have been searching for for a long, long time. No luck once again, but I had to ask. The only thing I regret about our visit is that I didn't speak to Robert when I first saw him and ask if I could take his picture. Maybe I was a bit starstruck...LOL. I'll wrap up this week tomorrow with one more Postcard to deliver. Drop by if you have time and I'll see you then!
