South Mountain State Park is one of the most rugged of the NC system. It has elevations rising up to 3,000 feet, an 80-foot waterfall, over 40 miles of hiking trails, and 17 for mountain biking. We had the pups with us , but since we could hear thunder off in the distance, we didn't walk as far as we might have. There was a great breeze, the bugs were almost nonexistent, and we let Gracie run in and out of the water.
