We spent every day of the week meeting, interviewing, and photographing boat builders, fishermen, oyster shuckers, workers in seafood processing plants, and many others who made their livelihoods in a coastal profession.
In addition to studying at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, we took field trips. One such field trip was to the Martin-Marietta Quarry. I will NEVER forget the fun we had digging for fossils and getting to keep everything we found. I collected rocks as a child, so getting to search for fossils was right up my alley.
That brings me to today's Postcard. On Wednesday we took the ferry from Bath over to Aurora to visit the Fossil Museum there.
Inside the museum were display cases showing the remains of sharks, whales, bony fish, corals, shells, and other invertebrates. Some were simply on exhibit, while others were for sale. The staff will even help you identify your finds.
Thanks for taking time to stop by on your Saturday and I'll be here tomorrow to tell you about our Mt. Olive Pickle visit!
