My oh my, we have come a long way! Here are the faces of folks who helped set new BRR records left and right this year...
When I planned the very first Blue Ridge Rally way back in 2008, I had no idea if anyone would sign up or show up. That first year, we celebrated camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina with 22 trailers! This was before the days of T@DAs and Airstreams. 21 of those trailers were T@Bs and my cousin Rob was in an older RV, but that's another story...LOL. My oh my, we have come a long way! Here are the faces of folks who helped set new BRR records left and right this year... I am back to the hills for a couple of days at The Wee Cabin. Gotta get her opened up and aired out now the big BRR isn't taking up all my waking minutes. See ya tomorrow evening peeps!!
My camping buddies, John and Judy Crankshaw, have been on the road since December and the Blue Ridge was the last major stop on their way back to Michigan. On Judy's blog, here's what she said last week... After months of camping by ourselves, mostly in quiet campgrounds, the five days of our Blue Ridge Rally for T@DAs and T@Bs (and friends) was an explosion of laughter and conversation. My face hurts. Here are some of the folks she was talking about... I hope you are enjoying putting names with faces. I will see you back here tomorrow for more of my Blue Ridge Peeps!
There is only reason that the Blue Ridge Rally is always so much fun. It is because of these people... If you take a look at Saturday's bulletin board, you'll see that the three big activities of the day were the Potluck Supper, the group photo, and the wild and crazy Snitch-A-Gift. The smells coming out of camper kitchens were heavenly late in the afternoon and once the food hit the tables in the Rec Building, it was evident that we were in for another rally feast! Lots of folks donned their finest hillbilly duds and posed for pre-dinner photos. Coonskin caps, straw hats, flannel, and overalls were popular attire for the evening. And then there was Wildman Jay who looked like he came straight from Burning Man! Once back inside, we got ready for the ever popular, ever crazy Snitch-A-Gift. Camping-related gifts were wrapped, numbers were drawn, and the mayhem began. For me the funniest moment of the evening was when Baby Alice stole Tony's Play-Doh! One last campfire wrapped up our Saturday at the Blue Ridge, compliments of Geo the fire master. There's a bit of melancholy surrounding that fire because we had to say goodbye to new friends that we were just getting to know. With hugs and promises of keeping in touch, one by one, folks called it a night.
I'll also call it a night, but promise to be back tomorrow with some of the faces of the Blue Ridge. Have a good evening everyone! What do you see on a Saturday at the Blue Ridge Rally? Evidence of raccoons finding good eats to liquid leftovers found in The Holler from the previous night... Radio personality Brooke Folk in a Little Guy teardrop to an early morning cup of joe with Geo... Breakfast with Pete and Beth in front of Breezy, the Airstream... Sisters from a different mother, Sandi and Beth... A surprise visit from friends Lynne and Boot that I haven't seen in 15 years!!! T@Bbers Morgan and Ray with their precious pups... A military-proud Little Guy teardrop belonging to Jamie and Susie Sigmon... Toolbelt Sue and Gid doing what they do best...T@B trouble- shooting and maintenance... Corn hole spectators Dick and Rob... I could go on and on and on with this, but I'll stop here and continue tomorrow. Becky and I had a short trip down the mountain this morning and left The Holler with a heavy sigh.
Thanks for joining me at the BRR this past week and I look forward to filling in the details for you this coming week! We woke to sun shining in Splash's windows and that's always a joyous thing when camping. We had to be up and away at 8:30 to Shatley Springs for breakfast at nine. They serve up the best Southern breakfast around these parts . . . all you can eat and oh, so good! Forty-two of us dined on country ham, sausage, bacon, grits, eggs, biscuits, baked apples, pancakes, potatoes, juice and coffee. It was decadent and delicious! Becky and I did a little exploring of Ashe County along the New River. It was such a gorgeous day in the Blue Ridge that we had to get out of the campground for a bit. Back at the campground, we spent the afternoon just relaxing. At 4:00 we had Owner's Happy Hour, where folks had an opportunity to gather with fellow T@Bbers, T@DAers, and Streamers to talk shop about their trailers. This evening we had a trivia contest in the Rec Building and the winning team of Diane Ranna and Dick Althouse won $115 for their mad trivia skills!
I am kinda tired tonight and am skipping the campfire. I hope to turn in before 10:30 because I'll be up early getting ready for the Coffee Bar. Y'all have a good evening and nite nite from The Holler! Today was one of those perfect Blue Ridge Rally days that you dream about all year. We spent the entire day in The Holler and I have to tell you, it rocked!! 8:00-9:30 a.m. . . . the Coffee Bar was open for business serving pot after pot of hot Dunkin' Donuts coffee. My T@Bbin' buddies dropped by off and on all morning to bring me happies and to just chat in the sunshine under the tall pines. Alice, my little campmeister-in-training and Sue,helped me with Splash's Garbage Pick-up . The two o'clock flea market actually started about 11 and ran until 4 with bargains galore. There were lots of happy campers who scored some incredible deals, and I sold a lot of stuff too! We concluded our day in The Holler with a roaring campfire and based on the conversation, laughter, and smiling faces, I'd say that our day in The Holler was a grand success.
Thanks for picking up your Postcard from the BRR and I wish you all a pleasant evening! |
