I have been researching campgrounds in the Shenandoah area for about a week and came up with a dozen possibilities. This little trip with Murphy the Camper Dog should give us a grand opportunity to pick the best one. I ran a poll with my Blue Ridgers last week and their suggestions for what to look for were loud and clear!
With their top 4 wishes in mind, Becky and I are taking time to rate each campground that we visit. Today we looked at four and we are in agreement that only one is rally worthy.
So which was our favorite of the day? That would be Fort Chiswell RV Park in Max Meadows! From the minute I walked in the office and was greeted by owner, Jeff Little, I had a good feeling about the place. He was the only person all day that offered to walk us around and show us the park. He had on a Tear Jerker's rally t-shirt and said he was real familiar with T@Bs. He was the only one of the four that offered us a rally discount.
While not all of the 92 sites are shaded, the majority are. 81 of those sites are pull-thru campsites. The bathhouse had the most sinks, toilets, and showers of any we saw today and there was a speaker in there playing some groovy music! While his pavilion isn't enclosed, it was large enough to handle all of us. There was also a sweet little room with a big TV and tables for playing cards, a laundry, and some rental cabins. Every site has full hook-ups, cable, and a good wi-fi signal. Did I mention that their pool is heated?
