But my life in the last two weeks has been anything but regular, and quite frankly, I've been distracted. After the initial shock from a biopsy signaling the presence of skin cancer, I immediately got my rear in gear to take care of the problem. I've been really lucky in terms of things happening quickly.
I was so afraid that I would have to wait weeks and weeks in between each step in this process, but the timeline has been nothing short of amazing and quite the blessing!
March 26 - call to my dermatologist
April 1 - 9:00 a.m. appointment with Dr. Pruitt
April 2 - results of the biopsy in the afternoon
April 3 - 9:00 a.m. appointment with Dr. Pruitt to discuss options,
referral to Piedmont Dermatology while I waited, phone
call from Piedmont Dermatology after I got home to
schedule the surgery, another phone call an hour later to
complete pre-op
April 7-11 - scheduled trip to Williamsburg
April 14 - 8:30 a.m. surgery by Dr. Charles Johnson, Mohs surgeon
I have a rather long incision that stretches from the corner of my right eye all the way over to my hairline. The surgery went smoothly, Dr. Johnson sang along with the radio as he worked, and the first pathology report came back clean after an hour-long wait.
Fifteen minutes later I was stitched up, bandaged up, and sent on my way with emphatic instructions...take it easy for two weeks! No bending at the waist, no lifting of anything weighing more than 5 to 10 pounds, no working out, or doing anything to raise my blood pressure.
So there's the whole story about the infrequent Postcards lately. Thanks to Becky and Wendy who tag-teamed me on Monday and played nurse. Thanks to sister Miriam for sharing her experiences and wisdom with me. Thanks to Jessie for telling me not to be scared. Thanks for your patience during this Postcard distraction. Thanks especially for the thoughts and prayers you sent my way!
