After lunch, a bunch of us headed out on bicycles to explore more of the park and work off a bit of our lunch.
Happy Easter from James Island and a group of happy campers. While Becky was getting her shower, I walked outside to start the day, turned around, and was greeted by this glorious Easter gift... I took my time getting ready this a.m., enjoying coffee with the sound of rain on the roof. Becky and I ran out to The Pig (Piggly Wiggly) in hopes of finding rotisserie chicken salad for our mini-croissants. We found exactly what we were looking for! I cut the croissants open and Becky did the spreading in preparation for our Easter Brunch at noon. Vickie outdid herself with decorations for our brunch! We had quite the spread, but you probably already guessed that we would. There were little flower pots with baby carrots sticking in hummus. From ham to sausage and gravy biscuits, fresh fruit to hash potato casserole, bacon to crock pot applesauce, we ate like T@Bbin' kings and queens once again!
After lunch, a bunch of us headed out on bicycles to explore more of the park and work off a bit of our lunch. After a quick trip to Walmart for another set of tent stakes and a few groceries, we ran into the Goodwill Store to see if we could find a cute and cheap little lamp for inside the screen room. I scored a little green one for $3.99, found a shade to match, and snitched a light bulb to boot! I love a bargain!! My dear friend Kathie Corley, who lives just a few miles away, surprised us with a visit after lunch. It was great to see her again and our plans are to get together one day next week for another visit before we head home. I spent the afternoon on my bike exploring this huge park. I don't know how many miles I rode, but I saw just about every area and snapped a few photos along the way.
Becky and I had a great supper...roasted onions, lemon green beans, and pork tenderloin before Rob and I hopped in the car to head over to the fishing pier to catch the sunset. Tomorrow is our big Easter brunch at noon. We're hoping that the rains that will be in the area will bypass us.
I hope you all have had a great Saturday, I sure did! Sleep well and I'll chat with you tomorrow. Hello folks and greetings from James Island County Park on the road out to Folly Beach! Becky and I got away from Newton about 8:15 and met cousins Rob and Trisha at the SC Welcome Center to begin our caravan down to Charleston. Traffic was unbelievably heavy on I-77 all the way to Columbia. After we got on I-26 south to Charleston, we started running into delay after delay. We chatted with Rob via phone and decided to get off the interstate and follow Highway 176 that paralleled I-26. It added another hour or so to our trip time, but it definitely reduced our stress level quite a bit. We arrived at the campground about 2:30, had a speedy check in, and began setting up camp in site 40. Mike and Norene, Tom and Vickie were already here and as we were unpacking, the rest of the gang arrived. Set up took us longer than normal because we had to erect the big PahaQue screen room along with its floor. Plus, we had to stop and hug necks and say hello as everyone arrived. My Sisters On The Fly friends Judy and Carol from Pigeon Forge have been here all week and we got to visit with them off and on throughout the afternoon and evening. They are heading home tomorrow unfortunately. Judy gave me a couple of happies - - two place mats and a little sign made out of Scrabble tiles for The Coffee Cup!! I'm really looking forward to exploring the park and campground tomorrow. For today though, we were all about getting set up, visiting with good friends, making a run to Publix for groceries, and settling in to watch some NCAA basketball this evening.
We've still got some chores to do like stringing up lights, pulling out all my do-dads inside, putting out our sign, getting the outdoor kitchen arranged, but that will wait until tomorrow. I'll leave you this evening with a our very appropriate table cloth and Becky's Easter flowers. Have a good evening and I'll chat with you tomorrow!! Two more days and Becky and I will be on the road to Charleston! We're going to meet Rob and Trisha at the I-77 rest area in Fort Mill, SC and caravan down to the coast. That will help alleviate a bit of the stress I experience pulling SplashT@B on the interstate. In the meantime, I'm making good progress getting everything ready. I sat down Monday night and made a to-do list for yesterday, today, and tomorrow. With the Blue Ridge Rally just a month away, I needed to stay on pace with those plans. I won't go into all the details, but I'll tell you that there were 10 things I needed to do yesterday, 8 were on my list for today, and there are 14 for tomorrow. And I'm happy to report that so far, I'm right on track. I spent a good portion of the afternoon pulling out camping gear, cleaning off cobwebs, and packing the car. It looks like soooooo much stuff to me and there's still a bicycle, clothing bags, and computers to go in. I realize that lots of folks take a whole lot more stuff than I do, but I'm always conscious of weight, taking what's needed depending on the campground and its location, and packing efficiently. The pups knew something is up as they sat in the chair together watching me go in and out of the house, back and forth from the storage room to the car. I won't be sending out a Postcard tomorrow, but check back in on Friday evening for news of our travel day and settling in at James Island County Park! Safe travels to all my buddies heading in the same direction...see you Friday!!
I'm not trying to be sacrilegious here, I just snitched that title from a comment made by a crazy Facebook and teacher friend of mine who happens to be the music director for her church. Trying to get ready for Holy Week with all its services has her a little frazzled. That's where I'm coming from too. Trying to get ready for a big camping trip on Friday also has me a bit frazzled. That trip is a GOOD thing, but knowing that I'll be away from home for eight days means I really have to stick to a strict Blue Ridge Rally preparation schedule in order not to lose ground! Eenie, meenie, minie, mo, Pick a trailer by the tow, Which camper gets to go? Eenie, meenie, minie, mo. I know that everyone wants me to take The Coffee Cup, but Becky and I will be there for eight days together, sharing the same space, and that means we need some elbow room. SplashT@B's screen room will triple our living space, so she gets to make the trip. I need to scoot and get this day started. I cannot predict how many Postcards I'll be sending out this week, but drop by to see if there are any new ones just in case. SplashT@B might have some Stories for you and there could even be a little Java news too.
I hope everyone has a good week and I'll be chatting with you again soon. Holy moly, it's going to be a busy one for me!! OMG...what happened to Spring? When I headed out to CORE Fitness this morning my car said 29! Thanks goodness I camped last weekend and not this one.
One week from today about a dozen T@Bbers will be converging on Charleston, SC. My northern buddies are crossing fingers and toes that they will escape their frozen, snowy environs for the sunny South. I hope so too! You might be familiar with Fodor's because of their excellent travel guides. They have just published their 10 best small towns in America list. I have actually been to 4 of them and thought you might to see which ones they chose and how many you have visited.
So, are you wondering which four I've traveled to? They would be Brattleboro, Provincetown, Sedona, and St. Augustine. How about you...which ones have you been to?
I love, love, love fabric. Every time I go into Lee's Sewing Center to pick up embroidery thread, I go into a fabric stupor. I'm not kidding here! I would totally love to buy fabric there on a weekly basis and make pillowcases...oodles and oodles of pillowcases. That stems from the fun I'm having making Jessie's each month. I stopped there yesterday afternoon while out running errands, to pick up four colors of thread that I needed and it was all I could do not to browse the fabric aisles and pull out the bolts to match patterns. Heavy sigh... I also have a weakness for visiting Robin's Nest on ETSY. Her "oh so creative" fabric selection is to die for! If you'd like to visit Robin's online store, just go HERE. These are some of my latest favs. I would love to make some T@B awnings, camping place mats, pillowcases, and coffee cozies. As always, I really appreciate you taking a moment out of your day to pick up your Postcard. Have a good one my friends!!
With camping season right around the corner for many of you and fresh vegetable season for all of us, I just gotta tell you about a yummy dish that is one of Chef Rob's specialities....Roasted Onions. I don't have a photo of his scrumptious dish, but this one will give you a clue as to what to expect! Rob fixed these for our supper Friday night, but it wasn't the first time I've eaten them. I don't know why they tasted extra special, but they did. It's gotta be that cooked-outdoors phenomenon! Grab some big, juicy, sweet onions...I love those Georgia Vidalias that are so good here in the South. Cut the tops off and peel them. Slice off just enough of the bottom so that they sit flatly, but don't fall apart. Cut them into wedges, but don't go all the way through. Place each onion on a big ole square of aluminum foil. Here's Rob's secret ingredient...Old Bay Seasoning. Sprinkle each onion liberally with the spice and then top with a pat of butter. Wrap the onion and place it on the grill for about 45 minutes. I baked some in the oven last evening and set the temperature at 450 degrees. Maybe Rob will jump in here and tell us how hot his grill was. Open that foil packet slowly, because all that oniony steam will come pouring out and along with it, the most delicious smell ever!
Add this recipe to your camping menu one evening and give Chef Rob the camping kudos!! Have a good one...see ya tomorrow! Mornin' folks! This week is all about getting back on track. That means sending out daily Postcards, hitting CORE Fitness daily at 10:00 a.m., and chipping away daily at my Blue Ridge Rally to-do list. I want to share a few more weekend photos with you today to get this week started on the right track. Murphy the Camper Dog has pretty much been grounded from camping since Baby Gracie came into the picture. Together, they form a barking machine that will get you run out of a campground in a heartbeat! I'm very conscious of how quickly barking dogs can ruin a camping experience and I certainly don't want to be the cause of that. With the exception of her going with me on the first outing of the season, she stays at home with Gracie or is boarded. But I have to tell you that if she behaved every time we camped like she did this past weekend, she would be with me every time! Talk about the model camper...that was my girl!! With those happy-dog photos, I'll send you off on your way. Have a good Monday and a great week!!
